JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - The University of North Florida women's swimming and diving team won 10 of 12 events and rolled to a 162-69 win over Vanderbilt on Friday night at UNF Aquatic Center.
The Lady Ospreys (2-0 in duals) were led by freshman LynAnn Nelson, who picked up wins in the 50-free (25.19) and 500-free (5:06.03) and set new lifetime-bests in the process.
"It was a great way to start our home schedule," head coach Beth Harrell said. "We had some lifetime-bests tonight, and I think so far this year we've been able to start faster than we have in the past. Everyone is excited about this year and our new conference. I think we'll be a player in the conference."
Freshman Sara Taylor picked up her first career win in the 1000-free, posting a time of 10:54.40. In the 100-breast, sophomore Kristin Pike clocked in at 1:09.63 and finished in first.
In the 100-back, sophomore Emily Shaw clocked in at 1:01.62 and was the event's top finisher. Sophomore Krissy Harms picked up a first-place finish in the 200 IM after recording a time of 2:16.35.
Freshman Megan Boudreau, who along with fellow Canadian teammate Patricia Lanoue competed in her first individual event in the United States, swam the 100-free in 54.69 to finish first in the event. Freshman Becky Ryerson was right behind Boudreau in second-place with a time of 56.78.
UNF proved to be strong in relays, getting the meet started off with a win in the 200-medley relay. Shaw, Krysten Nemecek, Caroline Poling and Nelson picked up the top finish after clocking in at 1:50.91.
Junior diver Emily Eisenhower, who qualified for the NCAA Zone B Diving Championships last season, got her season off to a solid start by sweeping both the 1-meter and 3-meter competitions. Her scores in both 1-meter (308.95) and 3-meter (296.55) were good enough to help her qualify for this year's NCAA Diving Zones. Junior Debbie Rapoza joined Eisenhower as a qualifier with a score of 301.30 in 1-meter and a mark of 284.75 in 3-meter.
The Lady Ospreys will return to action at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 3 for a Coastal Collegiate Swimming Association dual with Campbell at UNF Aquatic Center.
