
UNF splits home meet

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - The
University of North Florida swimming and dive squad
defeated Lock Haven 183-47 on Wednesday at the
UNF Aquatics Center, but could not get by Northern
Colorado, falling 153-90.
Krysten Nemecek captured a victory for the Lady
Ospreys in the 200-breastroke and also helped UNF
to a second place finish in the 400-medley relay.
Northern Colorado started out fast, winning the first
five events. UNF's Jacqui Beals put forth a strong
effort in the 1000-freestyle, pushing Northern
Colorado's Kelly Sandford for the first 30 laps of the
race before eventually finishing third.
UNF opened the meet with a second-place finish in
the 400-IM relay, with the team of Dana
Constantino, Nemecek, Caroline Poling and Maria
Bianchi finishing in a time of 4:09.59.
Lock Haven captured its first win of the day when
Gerda Smirnova finished first in the 100-freestyle in a
time of 54.22. UNF's Chelsea Lewis finished the race
second in a time of 55.67.
Krissy Harms and Beals finished second and third,
respectively, in the 500-freestyle. Harms finished the
race in a time of 5:27.18, while Beals recorded a time
of 5:28.45.
Northern Colorado's Sarah Cook and Jessica Leach
traded wins in the diving competitions, with Cook
winning the 1-meter and Leach winning the 3-meter.
UNF's Deanna Schuran was fourth in the 1-meter
competition, while Kaila Johnston was third in the 3-
meter.
The Lady Ospreys are back in the pool this weekend
when they head to Atlanta to take on Georgia Tech
and Emory.
