Western Kentucky, Florida Atlantic defeat Lady Ospreys

PEMBROKE PINES, Fla. (Oct. 23,2004)-The University of North Florida swimming team received strong individual performances on Saturday, but were unable to escape defeat against Western Kentucky University and Florida Atlantic University, losing to WKU 165-78, and to FAU 155.50-87.50. Freshman diver Amber Price swept the competition, winning both the 1 meter and 3 meter diving events.
Senior Shawna Bothwell won her first event of the season, taking first in the 200 backstroke. She also finished second in the 200-yard freestyle, and fourth in the 1,000 yard freestyle. Sophomore Julieann Watson also performed strong, finishing second in the 200 breaststroke, and collecting a fourth place finish in the 200 individual medley. Sophomore Amanda Rutherford also collected a top three finish in the 100-yard freestyle.
Two relay teams each finished in the top five in the 200-yard free relay. Junior Christie Britt, sophomore Jenn Shields and seniors Jennifer McKay and Jessica Ware finished third, while freshman Lindsey Gatz, Watson, Senior Jennifer Downing and Rutherford finished fifth.
Price took the 1-meter crown, defeating Western Kentucky's Trisa Mupfudze by .50 for her first collegiate victory. She then won the 3-meter by defeating the field by almost 39 points. Sophomore Kaila Johnston also finished in the top six in both events, finishing fifth in the 3-meter, and sixth in the 1-meter.
The Ospreys are next in action on Nov. 12 when they travel to take on Gardner Webb and Campbell at GWU.
