Lady Ospreys defeat Campbell, lose to Gardner-Webb

BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. (Nov. 12,2004)- The University of North Florida swimming team came away with a split in Friday's meet, defeating Campbell University 180-24, and losing to host Gardner-Webb 135-69. The Lady Ospreys notched two victories out of the 11 events, with GWU winning the other nine.
Senior Shawna Bothwell had another strong performance, finishing first in the 200-yard backstroke and second in the 200-yard freestyle. Sophomore Amanda Rutherford and junior Christie Britt helped UNF by both finishing second in two races each, Rutherford in the 50- and 100-yard freestyles, and Britt in the 200-yard butterfly and the 1,000 yard freestyle. Sophomore Julieann Watson finished third in both the 200-yard breaststroke and the 200-yard IM, while freshman Savannah Codd took third in the 500-yard freestyle.
North Florida relay teams performed well, as team "A", consisting of Rutherford, freshman Lindsey Gatz, senior Jennifer Downing and Bothwell, took first in the 200-yard freestyle relay, and third in the 200-yard medley relay. Team "B", which included sophomores Jenn Shields and Jacqui Beals, senior Jessica Ware and Codd, finished second in the 200-yard freestyle relay, and fourth in the 200-yard medley relay.
UNF will now travel to take on UNC Wilmington on Nov. 13.
