Claire Doherty joined her former college coach Ian Coffey's staff in August of 2016 after a standout career at Radford University.
Doherty was a three-year member of the Radford swim team, primarily swimming butterfly and freestyle. With Coffey as her head coach, she was named the Swimming and Diving Freshman of the Year after the 2011-12 season. She swam the school’s third fastest 100 butterfly and the fourth fastest 200 butterfly times in program history at the 2013-14 Coastal Collegiate Sports Association Championships. In her final season the CCSA recognized her on the league’s All-Academic Team.
Doherty graduated from Radford with a Bachelor of Science degree in Human and Health Performance with a concentration in Sport Management and a minor in Management. She is currently pursuing her Master’s degree from East Carolina University in Kinesiology with an expected graduation in December of 2016.
While at ECU she served as a mentor for the Supporting Transition and Education through Planning and Partnerships (STEPP) Program. Prior to ECU she served as an intern at Virginia Tech where she worked closely with the athletic department’s Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC).
Originally from Chesapeake, Va., Doherty attended Hickory High School where she set the school’s 100 butterfly record in her senior season.Â
