Over the last four years, Ashley Iveson has helped set a new standard for University of North Florida pitchers. A former Atlantic Sun pitcher herself, Iveson enters her fifth year as an assistant coach with primary oversight of the Ospreys’ pitching staff.
Â
Iveson’s pitching staff ranked in the top 60 out of 289 teams for ERA in 2014 and all three pitchers – senior Cortney Radke and juniors Kayla Goff and Kaylie Wallace – continued their climbs into the Osprey record book. Radke concluded a stellar career that saw her ranked in most of UNF’s career pitching categories. Meanwhile, Wallace earned back-to-back Atlantic Sun Pitcher of the Week honors and was the only pitcher to earn consecutive weekly honors by the conference.
Â
In 2013, perhaps one of the biggest keys to UNF’s success was its pitching abilities. With three veteran pitchers in junior Cortney Radke and sophomore Kayla Goff and Kaylie Wallace, the Ospreys had an ERA under a 2.00 for much of the season and concluded the year ranked 19th in the NCAA with a 1.97 ERA. UNF’s 1.97 ERA also led the Atlantic Sun.
Â
The Osprey pitching staff was a huge part of UNF’s 11-game winning streak from Feb. 22-Mar. 2. Radke, Goff and Wallace tallied seven-straight shutouts during that winning streak. Additionally, the trio combined for 54.1 scoreless innings pitched during the 11 consecutive wins.
Â
Each member of the Osprey pitching trio had a significant season. Radke pitched the second no-hitter of her career on Feb. 23 during UNF’s five-inning 8-0 win against Towson, which started the 11-game winning streak. Goff was the conference’s top Pitcher on Mar. 4 after posting a 0.30 ERA and a 4-0 record during the week of Feb. 25-Mar. 3. Wallace continued to have another stellar season and led the A-Sun in ERA for much of the year and finished with a 1.63 ERA. She earned NFCA Second-Team All-Region, Atlantic Sun Pitcher of the Year, Capital One Academic All-District 4 and UNF’s co-Female Athlete of the Year honors. She was also named Atlantic Sun Pitcher of the Week on Mar. 25.
Â
Working with three new pitchers in 2012, including two freshmen, UNF’s pitchers were a key part to the Ospreys’ Division I era record nine-game winning streak. The pitching staff registered a 3.42 ERA during those nine games with freshman Kaylie Wallace having a 0.34 ERA during that span. Wallace was later named to the Atlantic Sun All-Freshman Team after a great rookie year that included two conference Pitcher of the Week nods and a 33.1-inning scoreless streak.
Â
During her first year, Iveson coached Cortney Radke, the 2011 Atlantic Sun Freshman of the Year. Under Iveson’s tutelage, Radke already established herself among UNF’s pitching leaders, setting single season records for strikeouts (308), innings pitched (268.2), appearances (49), games started (32) and complete games (27).
Â
As a player, Iveson competed for crosstown rival Jacksonville University as a pitcher from 2006-10. Over her career, the Kissimmee, Fla., native recorded a 2.99 ERA in 487 innings of work and holds the career school record for strikeouts per game with a 6.04 average. Iveson was named A-Sun Pitcher of the Week twice during her playing career and earned Second-Team All-Atlantic Sun honors as a senior.
Â
Prior to North Florida, Iveson spent the 2010 fall season as an assistant coach at West Virginia Wesleyan College, being responsible for the pitchers and catchers where she was on track to inherit a 20-win pitcher from the 2010 season. The Lady Bobcats were coming off a successful 2010 campaign when it claimed the WVIAC regular season and tournament championship titles and earned a berth in the NCAA Atlantic Region Tournament. Additionally, the squad finished the season ranked No. 38 with a record of 44-13 in the 2010 National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) Division II Final Poll.
Â
Before West Virginia Wesleyan, Iveson interned with the Georgia State Games-Amateur Olympic Games from May-August of 2010, serving as the Youth Baseball Coordinator where she organized a seven-team youth baseball tournament.
Â
Iveson earned her bachelor of science degree in sports administration from Jacksonville University in May of 2010.
