Michael Mattiace returned to his roots in March of 2024 and joins the Osprey coaching staff as an Assistant Coach during the 2023-24 season.
In his first two seasons assisting the men's and women's golf teams, he has helped develop six All-ASUN honorees, as well as two ASUN All-Freshmen selections, an ASUN All-Academic selection and the ASUN Men's Golfer of the Year in 2024. During the 2024-25 season alone, both squads reeled in a combined seven ASUN Golfer of the Week honors with two from the men's side and five from the women's side.
Mattiace jumped right into action during his first season helping UNF to a top-three team finish at the ASUN Championship. He also assisted the team to a top-five placement at the NCAA Rancho Santa Fe Regional, which led to their appearance at the 2024 NCAA Championship tournament.
A native of Jacksonville, Fla., Mattiace was a five-year standout for the UNF men's golf from 2016-21 highlighted by an All-ASUN selection and three Academic All-ASUN selections throughout his tenure in Jacksonville. He went on to play three years of professional golf, mainly in the Dakotas Tour with three wins, 12 top-10 finishes, and 19 top-25 finishes in summer events.
Mattiace was a decorated player with the Ospreys on top of his All-ASUN selection as ASUN Co-Freshman of the Year, ASUN All-Freshman and an ASUN Golfer of the Week selection. He added on to his conference all-academic selections as well, landing on the ASUN Academic Honor Roll five times in his collegiate career.
Through his five seasons with UNF, Mattiace was a part of three teams wins, including the ASUN Championship team in 2018, four regional team appearances and two NCAA Championship appearances. His best year came during the shortened COVID-19 season with five top-25 finishes, while his best collegiate placement was during his fifth year placing fourth overall at The Collegiate Invitational hosted by UAB.
During his professional tenure from 2021-23 in the Dakotas Tour, Mattiace competed in 32 combined summer events. He posted individuals wins at the 2022 Bobcat North Dakota Open, 2022 S&L Computer Services Inc. Oxbow Pro-Am, and the 2023 Dakota Winds Pro-Am, as well as a runner-up position at the 2021 Western Printing Pro-Am
Mattiace finished top-18 on the points list during all three summers in the Dakotas Tour with his highest finish being fourth in 2022. He also played in the U.S. Open Sectional qualifying round in 2023 and qualified into three Korn Ferry Tour events.
From 2016-21, Mattiace competed in eight amateur events highlighted by his FSGA Four-Ball win with teammate Jordan Batchelor in 2018, as well as two runner-ups and a third-place finish. He placed among the top 12 in every amateur event competed during that span, along with his entry into the 2020 U.S. Amateur tournament.
His father, Ken, and uncle, Len, both played collegiate golf attending South Florida and Wake Forest respectively. Len had 25 years of professional golf experience on the PGA Tour and Champions Tour, which included two tour wins and a runner-up finish at the 2003 Masters Tournament.
Mattiace is married to the former Sydney Shrader, who was on the UNF women's golf team from 2016-20.
