JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - North Florida Women's Tennis senior Laurie Barendse won ASUN Conference Player of the Week honors for the second time this season on Tuesday.
"Laurie continues to lead with integrity and grace," Head Coach Catherine Dunagan said. "Her results are a reflection of her hard work. I am so proud of her and all that she has accomplished this year."
It marks the second straight season that Barendse has won two ASUN Player of the Week awards. Barendse's honor marked the fifth total ASUN Player of the Week award for North Florida this season.
It marks the third time North Florida has earned five ASUN Player of the Week awards in the same year in Dunagan's seven seasons leading the program.
Barendse won her first ASUN Player of the Week award on Feb. 24 this season. Sophomore Gabby Goyins earned the weekly award on Jan. 20 and graduate student Isabel Oliveira won it on March 17 and March 31 this season.
Barendse posted an undefeated 2-0 record in singles at the one line, and a 2-0 mark in doubles at one over two matches last week at FGCU and against South Alabama at FGCU Tennis Complex. She's now 15-4 in singles action and 14-4 in doubles in 2026.
The Netherlands native, Barendse, earned a doubles win at the one line at FGCU on Friday, 6-3. Barendse turned in a two-set victory at one in singles, 6-0, 7-5, to give North Florida a 2-1 lead in its road match at FGCU.
Barendse carried her momentum into UNF's neutral site match against South Alabama on Saturday. She opened doubles action with a dominant win at the one line, 6-2. Barendse clinched the match point and secured the sweep over South Alabama with her second two-set win in as many matches at one, 7-5, 6-4.
Berendse's performances helped North Florida become the No. 49 ranked team in the nation in the latest ITA Division I National Team Rankings released on Tuesday. North Florida's No. 49 ranking ties the program's highest in Dunagan's seven seasons at the helm.
The Ospreys remained the only undefeated Division I women's tennis team in the nation. North Florida's 21-0 record this season is its best since the program's initiation in 1995.
North Florida closes out its regular season at Stetson in DeLand, Fla., on Friday, April 10 at 1 p.m. ET.
