Catherine Dunagan was named the North Florida women’s tennis head coach on Aug. 16, 2019. In six seasons at the helm, Dunagan has claimed an overall record of 85-43 and a 35-7 mark in ASUN Conference play.Â
Since 2019, Dunagan has collected two ASUN Tournament Championships, three regular season ASUN titles, two ASUNCoach of the Year awards, the first-ever NCAA Singles and Doubles appearance in program history and the first NCAA Tournament victory in program history.Â
Dunagan has guided North Florida’s student-athletes to three ASUN Player of the Year awards, three ASUN Doubles Pair of the Year honorees, one ASUN Freshman of the Year nod as well as six First Team, four Second Team and one Third-Team All-Conference selections.
North Florida's winningest season under Dunagan came in 2020-21, claiming an 18-8 overall record with an undefeated 6-0 record in conference play. Dunagan guided the Ospreys to 2021 ASUN regular season, divisional and tournament championships.
With Dunagan at the helm, North Florida claimed a victory in the 2021 NCAA Regionals First Round against No. 25 Ole Miss. North Florida’s win over the Rebels marked the first time a school from the ASUN has won an NCAA Tournament match in the history of the conference (2001). The Ospreys finished the 2020-21 season ranked as the No. 49 team in the nation.
Dunagan tallied her most single-season conference wins in 2022, claiming an 8-1 record in conference play and one of her three ASUN regular season titles in as many years.
Under Dunagan’s guidance, North Florida was ranked the No. 10 team in the final ITA Regional Rankings of 2023. One year prior, Dunagan captured the program’s first-ever regular-season victory over an SEC opponent, defeating Missouri on Feb. 27, 2022.
In Dunagan’s third season at North Florida, she reached 100-career wins against Lipscomb on Apr. 23, 2021.
Prior to North Florida, Dunagan spent one season as the women’s tennis associate head coach at Furman in 2018-19. In her one season at Furman, Dunagan guided the Paladins to a 26-1 overall record and an undefeated 7-0 mark in Southern Conference play.
In 2019, Furman climbed as high as No. 40 in the National Poll and secured the SoCon's automatic bid in the NCAA Championships. The Paladins earned a No. 3 seed in the NCAA Championships for just the second time in program history.
Furman concluded its spring slate in 2019 ranked No. 55 nationally. That same season, Dunagan helped Furman claim its third-consecutive and 19th overall SoCon Championship. Under Dunagan’s tutelage, Furman posted a 23-match winning streak, the longest in program history.
Before Furman, Dunagan had a seven-year stint as the women's tennis head coach at Presbyterian from 2011-18. The winningest coach in Division I program history at Presbyterian, Dunagan amassed 74 wins at the helm of the program and achieved the first three winning seasons in DI history in 2015, 2017 and 2018. Dunagan led Presbyterian to its first Big South Conference Tournament victory in 2018.
Prior to Furman, Dunagan spent two seasons as the head coach of the Newberry College program.
A native of Opelika, Ala., Dunagan earned a bachelor's degree in psychology with a minor in mathematics from Presbyterian in 2007. A four-year letter winner at Presbyterian, Dunagan played in the No. 1 singles and doubles positionand won four-straight Southern Atlantic Conference titles. In her playing career, Dunagan posted a 24-1 league recordand was named a four-time All-Southern Atlantic Conference selection. Dunagan was honored as the SAC Tournament MVP in her senior season.
Dunagan enjoys life at the beach with her three beautiful children, Ellis, Sloane and Banks.
