
No. 18 Beach Volleyball Defeats Georgia State, UNC Wilmington To Open The DeLand Cup

DELAND, Fla. – No. 18-ranked North Florida Beach Volleyball swept its matches to open action at The DeLand Cup at Cooper Beach Volleyball Complex in DeLand, Fla. on Friday.Â

North Florida defeated Georgia State, 4-1, and UNC Wilmington, 3-2.Â

North Florida earned the win against Georgia State with victories at four of the five flights, three of which were won in two sets. Junior Cameron Humphries and senior Mackenzie Murphy posted a 21-16, 21-18 win at the one line, while senior pair Andrea Da Silva Encinas and Madison Espy moved into the two line, 21-15, 21-12.

Senior Presley Murray and redshirt junior Sophia Notaro earned a 21-15, 21-15 win at the three line. Georgia State added its lone point on the four line. Junior Eden Anderson and freshman Ally Bunch added a three-set win, 21-15, 18-21, 17-15, at the five line.Â

North Florida opened a 3-0 lead with wins at the three, four and five line against UNC Wilmington. Anderson and Bunch earned a 21-14, 21-17 win at the five line, while Notaro and McDonald partnered for the first time this season with a 21-15, 21-15 win at the four line. Murray and Crosby also paired up for the first time this season and added a 21-10, 21-12 win at the three line. UNC Wilmington earned wins at the top two lines to reach the eventual final.Â

North Florida concludes its regular season on Saturday, April 18 when it battles No. 17 South Carolina at 1 p.m. ET.Â
