
Softball Earns ASUN Home Series Win With Dominant Doubleheader Sweep Over Stetson

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -Â North Florida took both games of the doubleheader against Stetson in dominant fashion at UNF Softball Complex in Jacksonville, Fla., on Saturday afternoon to earn its second-consecutive ASUN series win and first ASUN home series win.

In game one of the doubleheader, Stetson jumped out to an early lead with a run in the first, but the Ospreys would answer back with a seven-run frame in the bottom half of the inning.

Junior infielder Bella Cimino got the scoring started with an RBI double to right field. Sophomore catcher Caiden Oliva singled to the pitcher to bring in Cimino and give the Ospreys the lead. Sophomore outfielder Kennedy McQuillan would also cross the plate to make the score 3-1 UNF.

After back-to-back-to-back two-out walks, sophomore outfielder Grace Shaw launched a grand slam, her third homer of the year, into centerfield to cap off a seven-run first inning for North Florida.

The Ospreys would extend their advantage in the second inning, 9-1, after an RBI double from junior infielder Hannah Davila and an RBI groundout from redshirt junior outfielder Kalyn McCarthy. Â

Stetson would cut into the lead with a two-run home run in the fourth to make the score 9-3.

North Florida would extend their lead in the fourth inning with an RBI pinch hit single from senior infielder Taylor Shephard, an RBI double from senior infielder Ayden Allen and an RBI single from Shaw, her fifth RBI of the game, to make the score 13-3.Â
Â
It marked the second time this season scoring 13 runs, and the Ospreys improved to 6-0 this season when scoring 10+ runs.

Junior right-handed pitcher Cameron Ponich would spin 2.0 scoreless innings in relief to earn the run-rule win and improve to 12-4 on the year.Â

In game two of the doubleheader, the Ospreys once again tacked on runs in the first inning of play. After a leadoff single from graduate student Hallie Langford, a junior utility player Addie Keef single, and a throwing error would bring Langford around to score.Â
Â
An Oliva sacrifice fly would bring in the second run of the frame. Two more Osprey runs would come around to score after Davila put the ball in play with an RBI single to make the score 4-0 UNF after the first inning. Â
Â
Langford would extend the Osprey lead launching her second home run of the year to right field. Cimino would follow that up with a solo home run of her own, her team-high 10th of the season and second home run of the inning, to send North Florida to the sixth with a 6-0 advantage.

Stetson would tack on a run in the seventh inning to reach the eventual final.

Sophomore left-handed pitcher earned the win for the Ospreys pitching a complete game with just one run allowed to improve to 6-3 on the season.
