
Women's Basketball Falls To West Georgia

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Junior guard Alonya Waldon notched a team-high 19 points, but North Florida Women's Basketball ultimately fell to West Georgia, 75-68, at UNF Arena on Saturday afternoon.Â
Waldon converted on 10-14 from the free-throw line in the game. She has recorded 10 or more points in four of the last five games and 12 games this season.
Freshman forward Dezuray McGill posted 18 points on 8-11 from the field and 1-1 from three with six rebounds in 20 minutes. It marked her ninth game this season and fifth in ASUN action with 10 or more points.
Junior guard Elle Blatchford added 13 points in 29 minutes for her ninth game this season in double figures.Â
West Georgia took an 8-0 start into the first-quarter media timeout. A three from sophomore guard Jamisyn Stinson got the scoring started for North Florida. On the next possession, redshirt sophomore Alexa Washington forced a steal and found Blatchford for a fast-break finish. She would finish with a career-high eight assists and matched her career-best with four steals.

A finish in the lane from McGill cut the deficit to 15-10 at the 1:24-minute mark of the first quarter.Â

North Florida went on a stretch in which it converted on 8-9 from the field for an 10-0 run to close the margin to 22-20 at the 6:35-minute mark of the second quarter.Â

North Florida outscored West Georgia 21-11 in the third quarter. The Ospreys went on a 11-0 run that forced a Wolves' timeout and cut the score to 63-59 with 2:34 minutes left in the fourth quarter.Â
North Florida remains home at UNF Arena to host Florida Gulf Coast on Thursday, Feb. 12 at 7 p.m.Â
