Baseball Cruises Past Presbyterian In Game 1 Of Weekend Series, 15-6

JACKSONVILLE, FLA. - North Florida Baseball earned a dominant win in Game 1 of its weekend series, defeating Presbyterian, 15-6, at Harmon Stadium on Friday.

The Ospreys tallied 11 hits total and scored at least two runs in three different innings.

Trailing 4-0 in the second inning, North Florida responded with nine unanswered runs over the next six innings.

Redshirt junior left-handed pitcher Dakota Stone led the way for North Florida's pitchers, turning in 4.1 innings of scoreless work with seven strikeouts.

Redshirt sophomore outfielder Carter White opened the scoring for North Florida in the bottom of the second with an opposite-field home run. It marked the second home run this season for White.

Junior infielder Mathew Farner scored on a passed ball in the bottom of the third to bring the Ospreys within two. Farner came through in an even bigger way in the fourth, clearing the bases with a grand slam over the left-field wall. It marked the sixth homer this season for Farner and at the time, tied him for the lead for most home runs in Division I baseball. Farner's grand slam put North Florida ahead, 6-4.

Redshirt senior outfielder Tyler Gerteisen extended North Florida's advantage to 8-4 in the fifth with a two-RBI double to right field. Gerteisen finished the game 2-4 with three RBI and two runs.

Senior catcher Santiago Ordonez added an insurance run in the seventh for UNF, scoring on a wild pitch to increase its advantage to 9-4.

North Florida broke the game open in the eighth largely behind an RBI-single by Gerteisen and an RBI-double by Farner. The Ospreys' six-run bottom of the eighth brought the score to its eventual final.
