Softball Holds Tennessee Tech Scoreless To Sweep Doubleheader On Day One Of UNF-JU Classic

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -Â North Florida softball swept its doubleheader against Tennessee Tech to kick off the UNF-JU Classic at UNF Tennis Complex on Thursday afternoon.

The Ospreys held the Golden Eagles scoreless in both contests outscoring their visitors 13-0 on the day to improve to 13-2 at home.

Junior pitcher Cameron Ponich spun five no-hit innings against Tennessee Tech to help North Florida run rule its opponent 10-0 in game one of the doubleheader.Â
Â
With the bases loaded in the bottom half of the first, sophomore catcher Caiden Oliva would hit a sacrifice fly into left field to give the Ospreys an early 1-0 advantage.

North Florida would tack on five runs in the next inning to increase its lead to 6-0. A Tennessee Tech throwing error would lead to three runs scored before an Oliva two-run homer to right field would break open the game and give the Ospreys a six-run lead.

UNF would tack on a pair of runs in the third started by a double to right field from senior infielder Ayden Allen and an RBI triple to center field from sophomore outfielder Kennedy McQuillan.Â

Allen would tack on two more RBIs with a single in the fourth inning to reach the eventual final.

In game two of the doubleheader, senior pitcher Kate Peters pitched a complete game shutout with six strikeouts to help the Ospreys grab a 3-0 win over the Golden Eagles.

An RBI single into right field from junior infielder Bella Cimino would give North Florida an early 1-0 lead after the first inning. Cimino would extend her on-base streak to 21-consecutive games to start the season.

An RBI single up the middle from senior infielder Taylor Shephard would make the score 2-0 in the fourth inning.

After a triple from McQuillan, her second of the day, senior infielder Kelsey Vogel drove a double into right center to score McQuillan and make the score 3-0 Ospreys.
