No. 17 Beach Volleyball Defeats No. 14 Stetson, Splits Opening Action At Dolphin Duals

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – North Florida Beach Volleyball split its opening day of action at the Dolphins Duals at Jacksonville's Payne Sand Volleyball Courts at Dolphin Beach on Friday.

North Florida fell to RV South Carolina, 3-2, and then bounced back to handle No. 14 Stetson, 3-2.

In the initial match, South Carolina recorded wins at the two, three and four lines. Senior pair Presley Murray and Mackenzie Murphy earned a 21-17, 21-19 win at the one line. Sophomore Natalie Villalon and freshman Ally Bunch added a 24-22, 21-16 win at the five line for each of their first wins at North Florida.

In the match against Stetson, North Florida opened the action with wins at the two and four lines. Junior Cameron Humphries and redshirt junior Sophia Notaro posted a 21-12, 21-19 win on two, and senior Madison Espy and junior Eden Anderson added a 21-14, 25-23 win on four. After Stetson claimed the next two points, senior Andrea Da Silva Encinas and freshman Samantha Crosby responded to a first-set loss on the three line to clinch the match in a three-set win, 19-21, 21-17, 16-14.

Senior Raven Jordan and Graduate Student Alexandra Hennesey teamed up to win the extra court in each match.

North Florida returns to the sand for the second day of the Dolphins Duals on Saturday, Feb. 20, when it will battle RV Florida Gulf Coast at 12 p.m. and Jacksonville at 4 p.m. ET.
