Baseball Secures Series Win Over Sacred Heart

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - North Florida Baseball earned its first series win of the season with a run-rule victory over Sacred Heart, 12-2, in Game 3 at Harmon Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
Sacred Heart jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first inning, but junior infielder Mitchell Collins tied the score at one in the third with a ground ball to second base.
The fourth inning was a big one at the dish for the Ospreys. Junior infielder Mathew Farner scored on a passed ball and redshirt junior utility player Boone Hosey belted a two-run home run to right-center to put North Florida ahead, 4-1. Junior outfielder Gialdri Gomez capped off the four-run fourth frame, scoring on a passed ball to make it 5-1.
Sacred Heart tallied its second and final run in the fifth. Junior utility player Jackson Toberman extended North Florida's lead back to four with an RBI single up the middle.
The next big inning for North Florida came in the seventh. Farner led off the frame with a solo home run to left-center, marking his second long ball in as many days to open the season. Farner's homer pushed North Florida ahead, 8-2.Â
Four at bats later with two runners on, redshirt sophomore outfielder Carter White belted a three-run homer to right field for his first of the season, giving North Florida an 11-2 advantage. Redshirt junior utility player Jackson Schrafft scored UNF's final run of the game on a wild pitch.
