JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - North Florida softball grabbed another pair of exciting wins in the UNF-JU Invitational against Princeton and Stony Brook to garner its best start in Division I program history on Saturday evening at UNF Softball Complex.
The Ospreys with a 10-1 overall record are off to their best start in D-I program history, surpassing their 8-1 start from the 2022 season. It is also the best start to a season since 2004 in all-time program history, where UNF started 13-1 in the D-II Peach Belt Conference.
UNF fought back and forth against Princeton with major scoring swings early and late in the game. The Tigers jumped out to a 3-0 lead after a three-run homer in the first, but the Ospreys responded with four runs scored in the bottom of the third.
After a pair of RBI singles out Princeton back on top by two runs in the top of the fifth, UNF responded once again with back-to-back bombs from Bella Cimino and Ayden Allen put UNF up by one in the fifth. Kate Peters came in the sixth and shut down the Tigers' offense with four strikeouts and no runs allowed for the save.
The Ospreys came back for game two of the night against Stony Brook scoring early and often jumping to an 8-0 lead after the second inning. A bases-clearing triple from Grace Shaw and a three-run home run from Hannah Davila helped lift the score to an eight-run margin through two to help for the 9-0 run-rule victory in five innings.
