JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Representing North Florida Women's Basketball, redshirt junior Georgi Buzzetti was named a 2025-26 Kay Yow Servant Leader.Â
Buzzetti is one of 65 athletes from 23 different countries across every collegiate division chosen as a servant leader. She is the only Kay Yow Servant Leader in the Atlantic Sun Conference.
"We just want to be a part of a great cause and continue to carry Coach [Kay] Yow's legacy in the fight against breast cancer and cancers affecting women forward," Head Coach Erika Lambert said.
Coach Kay Yow had a 22-year on-again, off-again battle with breast cancer. She fought that battle in the public arena, and her hope was to inspire others to make a difference in the fight against breast cancer.
The Kay Yow Servant Leader Award honors her legacy and the young people who carry the fight forward. It is presented annually to student-athletes who best embody the characteristics of Coach Kay Yow – people with a servant's spirit and a commitment to selfless.
"I am so honored to be selected as an ambassador for the Kay Yow cancer awareness program," Buzzetti remarked. "This means a lot to me not only as an athlete and as a person, but my grandmother was part of LALCEC, the Argentinian league against cancer, for six years. She was selected by the American Cancer Society to speak as an ambassador. This is special for me, because it's like I'm continuing her [legacy] but in a different way."
Receipts of the Servant Leader Award are people of great character who put the needs of others before their own, who uplift others and who do it with grace and humility. They are nominated by their coach and are people who exemplify Coach Yow's spirit and who reflect her resolve, grace, generosity, and servant's heart.
Winners display courage and strength, and their first response is to give to others. They are people who have or will make an impact in the fight against cancer – improving lives and giving hope.
Award winners receive public acknowledgment of their accomplishment and are recognized by a patch they wear on their uniform in the year they win the award.
North Florida will play its Play4Kay game against Florida Gulf Coast on Thursday, Feb. 12, with tip-off set for 7 p.m., at UNF Arena. Fans are encouraged to wear pink to show their support in the fight against breast cancer. leadership both on and off the court and athletic field.
