JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Senior Ella Chandler and junior Nicole Shepherd both achieved career marks during their season opener at the Jimmy Carnes Invitational to earn weekly indoor performance honors from the Atlantic Sun Conference, as announced by the league office on Tuesday afternoon.
Chandler earned ASUN Women's Indoor Track Performer of the Week, while Nicole Shepherd garnered ASUN Women's Indoor Field Performer of the Week. Both honors are the first-ever conference weekly awards of their collegiate careers across all three seasons.
"Ella [Chandler] had a nice win in the 800m. She ran a well-executed race and continues to gain confidence and experience on the indoor track," said Jeff Pigg, Director of Cross Country / Track and Field. "Nicole [Shepherd] is continuing to develop her craft. It was a nice opener and I am proud to see how well she kicked off her senior year. It is going to be a big year for her!"
Chandler returned for the first time since qualifying for the NCAA Outdoor East Region First Round meet to put up a stellar time in the indoor 800m to place as the top finisher. Shepherd closed out the season-opening meet with a career-high mark across both indoor and outdoor in the high jump to earn third overall in the event.
For the third time since 2020, Chandler gives the Ospreys an ASUN Athlete of the Week for indoor season following Smilla Kolbe's pair of honors last season. Shepherd becomes the first Osprey in program history to receive ASUN Indoor Field Performer of the Week.
The duo will return this upcoming weekend back in Gainesville, Fla., for the ACSEC Invitational from Jan. 23-24 at Alachua County Sports & Events Center.
