JACKSONVILLE. Fla. – North Florida baseball handled Jacksonville, 8-1, in its regular-season finale and River City Rumble rubber match at John Sessions Stadium on Saturday.
North Florida struck in the first inning when it plated a run off a sac fly from sophomore
Mitchell Collins. After redshirt sophomore
Nick Monile drew a leadoff walk, senior
Connor Moore pieced a stand up double to put a pair of Ospreys in scoring position before Collins brought Monile home.
A two-run shot over the right-field wall from redshirt junior
James Oman extended the lead to 3-0 in the fourth inning. Jacksonville answered back with its lone run in the bottom of the frame.
Freshman right-hander starter
Trevor Nikolis dealt with five strikeouts and an earned run over four innings. Five other Ospreys relievers combined to only allow four hits and keep the Dolphins scoreless over the final five innings.
Monile belted a two-run home run, his first home run of the season, to make it 5-1 in the seventh. Monile finished 2-3 at the plate with four RBIs, a home run, two walks and two runs. His four RBIs matched a single-game season-high and extended his RBI total to four for the series.
