INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - North Florida softball has punched their ticket to the NCAA Tournament for the first time in program history, as they will be heading to the Columbia Regional hosted by South Carolina from May 16-18 at Carolina Softball Stadium at Beckham Field.
The Ospreys join South Carolina, Virginia and Elon as the No. 3 seed in their debut regional appearance. UNF is one of five teams in this year's NCAA Tournament to be dancing for the first time on Selection Sunday.
The first game of the regional weekend will take place on Friday, May 16, against No. 2-seeded Virginia, with first pitch set for 3 p.m., in Columbia, S.C. It will be a double-elimination bracket with the second set of games being played on Saturday, May 17, followed with the regional final on Sunday, May 18, on ESPN2.
UNF was one of 31 automatic qualifiers in the NCAA Softball Championships after defeating Eastern Kentucky, 5-4, in the ASUN Championship this past weekend in Oxford, Ala. The Ospreys look to continue its historic run led by two-way superstar Allison Benning, who is one home run shy from being the second player in NCAA D-I history to earn 20 wins in the circle and smash 20 home runs at the plate in a single season.
