JACKSONVILLE - Smilla Kolbe, Robert Pedroza and William Owens dominated this past weekend between the Florida Relays and the ERAU Running Elements Classic to take home a trio of weekly honors from the Atlantic Sun Conference, as announced by the league office on Wednesday afternoon.
Kolbe headlined the group with a program-record mark and top-two 800m time in the nation at the Florida Relays to receive ASUN Women's Outdoor Track Athlete of the Week. She ran a stellar time of 2:01.18 in her outdoor season opener to place first overall among some of the nation's best athletes.
"Smilla [Kolbe] had a great opener," said Pigg. "She is fit and yet a nice rest and we are back to work."
Pedroza matched Kolbe with a program-record in the 800m on the men's side and a top-10 time in the nation to notch ASUN Men's Outdoor Track Athlete of the Week. He clocked in at 1:47.37 to place ninth overall at the Florida Relays.
"Robert [Pedroza] had an amazing race," said head coach Jeff Pigg. "He has worked hard for years to get here and it great to see it paying off his senior year."
Owens broke a pair of school records between the 100m and 200m at ERAU to become ASUN Men's Outdoor Track Freshman of the Week. He brings in his second weekly conference award between indoor and outdoor after going 10.51 in the 100m and 21.12 in the 200m.
"Will [Owens] has been a nice boost to helping us expand our program to include more sprints," said Pigg. "He is a hard worker and has a bright future here at UNF."
Kolbe is the first women's Osprey since the 2018 season to bring home ASUN Athlete of the Week honors. Pedroza reels in his second in three weeks and fourth of his career, while Owens pulls in the third freshman weekly award over the past two outdoor seasons.
The trio will return next weekend from Apr. 18-19 for another split-squad weekend at the Georgia Tech Invitational and the Wake Forest Invitational.
