JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - North Florida track and field's Aiden Arnold and Jayvin Strouble swept the ASUN men's indoor weekly awards, as announced by the league office on Wednesday afternoon.
Both Arnold and Strouble put up great performances during their indoor regular season finale at the Visit Gainesville Indoor Classic. Arnold garnered ASUN Track Performer of the Week, while Strouble took in both ASUN Field Performer and Freshman of the Week.
This is Arnold's first career ASUN weekly award in his fifth year as a part of the UNF track and field program. The graduate student, who is a three-time All-ASUN selection across cross country, indoor and outdoor season, placed first in the mile and third in the 800m this past Friday in Gainesville, Fla.
For a second consecutive meet, Jayvin Strouble earned ASUN Freshman of the Week, while also doubling up with ASUN Field Performer of the Week honors. He cleared the 2.04m bar in the high jump competition with back-to-back first-place finishes during indoor season.
"It was another strong meet for the Ospreys. Jayvin [Strouble] is very consistent and the veteran Aiden [Arnold] just keeps getting better," said Jeff Pigg, Director of Cross Country / Track and Field. "I'm proud of them both and love the momentum heading into the ASUN Championships."
Strouble is the first freshman to win ASUN Freshman of the Week twice in a season in program history for indoor season. He is also the first in school history to win ASUN Field Performer of the Week for indoor season, as well as the first to earn two weekly conference distinctions in the same week and the first to earn back-to-back conference weekly honors.
Arnold joins Rey Hernandez as Ospreys to win ASUN Track Performer of the Week this season. There are now four current UNF athletes that have been awarded ASUN indoor weekly honors over the past two seasons.
Arnold and Strouble will return for the ASUN Indoor Championship meet from Feb. 27-28 at Norton Healthcare Sports and Learning Center in Louisville, Ky.
