
Women's Tennis Propels Past North Alabama

FLORENCE, Ala. – A three-set win from redshirt junior Isabel Oliveira propelled North Florida women's tennis past North Alabama, 4-3, in its regular season finale on Sunday.Â
With the win, North Florida clinches the No. 2 seed and a bye in the 2025 ASUN Tennis Championship.Â
North Florida secured the doubles point with wins at the two and three lines. North Alabama took the one slot to seize an early advantage before the tandem of junior Laurie Barendse and redshirt junior Anslee Long claimed a 6-3 win at the two spot. The point was clinched when freshman Gabby Goyins and sophomore Alisa Lyshko turned in a 6-2 win at three.Â

Junior Jasmin Makela extended the margin to open singles action with a straight-set win on court five, 6-3, 6-2. Leading 2-0, the final five courts all went to third sets. North Alabama commanded a late lead with a three-set wins on court three, four and six.Â
Down to the one and two positions, Barendse battled back from a first-set loss to take the top singles court, 3-6, 6-1, 7-5. Oliveira followed the same approach with a 3-6, 7-5, 6-4 win at two to clinch the match.Â
