Baseball Falls In Series Finale To Stetson

DeLAND, Fla. – North Florida baseball dropped its series finale against the Stetson Hatters, 8-4, at Melching Field at Conrad Park on Sunday afternoon.
Stetson opened the scoring in the bottom of the first inning with Juan De La Cruz stealing home, scoring an unearned run. The Hatters went on to post a five-run fifth inning, and scored another in the sixth to make it 8-0, but that didn't stop UNF from showing signs of fight in the top of the ninth.Â
Dylan Fatovich pinch hit to lead off the frame and was hit by a pitch to reach first base safely. Finn Howell then drove a single to right field to put runners on first and second with no outs. From there, Connor Witherington stepped to the plate as the third-straight pinch hitter in the top of the ninth and made the most of it. Witherington roped an RBI single to right-center field, scoring Fatovich from second to score North Florida's first run of the game.Â
Following a pitching change from the Hatters, Eric Fouraker sent an RBI double to center field to add another run on the board for the Ospreys. In the ensuing at bat, Seth Alford hit a sacrifice fly to left field to score Witherington from third to cut North Florida's deficit to 8-3. The Ospreys mustered one more run after Fouraker stole third and later scored on a fielder's choice, concluding UNF's comeback efforts.
