JACKSONVILLE - Allison Benning led North Florida softball to a sweep in the River City Rumble to notch her fifth career ASUN Pitcher of the Week award, as announced by the league office on Monday afternoon.
Benning brings in her eighth career conference weekly award, as she has received five pitching awards and three player awards from the Atlantic Sun. This is also the fifth weekly honor overall of the season for the senior, as well as the fifth ASUN Pitcher of the Week award by UNF on the year.
The Ospreys now have totaled eight combined ASUN weekly awards, which makes up half of the total conference weekly awards given out for softball this season. It is the most in D-I program history between pitcher and player honors and continues to climb the all-time ASUN marks for most weekly awards given out to a team in a single season.
The senior turned in a 3-0 weekend in the circle with 13 strikeouts to get up to 15 wins so far this season. She only allowed one earned run in 11.2 innings pitched with seven hits allowed against Jacksonville.
"[Allison] Benny was tremendous in the rivalry series. In addition to hitting over .600 when she was pitched to, she picked up three wins in the circle despite only getting the game one start. She stepped up big in relief in games two and three," said head coach Jeff Conrad. "The River City Rumble comes with bright lights and she made her presence felt all week."
Benning keeps her historic season going at home with a weekend series against Stetson from Apr. 5-6 at UNF Softball Complex.
