JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - North Florida will open up their week with a Tuesday game at Florida State. It is the third consecutive week the Ospreys will visit a midweek opponent, all three games taking place in the Sunshine State. The Seminoles are the third "Power Four" program UNF will face this season, and this will be the lone game on the schedule against them.
Last Time Out
The Ospreys snapped a three-game losing streak that started back on Feb. 26. North Florida scored early against Ball State, and despite a late comeback effort, were able to hold on to a 6-5 win. The victory was the first in program history against the Cardinals.
Nick Monile recorded three RBIs and
Seth Alford had another clutch RBI double in the win.
Kaden Humphrey slammed the door for his second save of the season and UNF's seventh win in total.
Scouting Florida State
FSU is fresh off a trip to Omaha in 2024, where they won 49 games and advanced to the semi-finals. The success of last season has carried over as Florida State is a perfect 11-0 in 2025. Former Osprey Alex Lodise is currently the team leader in batting average (.438), home runs (4), and total bases (36). The pitching staff has been excellent as well. The Seminoles are third in the country in ERA (1.97) and 11th in WHIP (1.06). Wes Mendes is 2-0 in three starts, striking out 24 in 15 innings while holding opponents to a .154 batting average. Joey Volini and Jamie Arnold have both had solid seasons as well.
Former Seminoles
North Florida's lineup is filled with former Florida State Seminoles including
Connor Moore, who leads UNF in hits (16).
Cade Bush and
Santiago Ordonez also spent time in Tallahassee. Bush has been the starting first baseman since he arrived in the fall of 2023, and Ordonez has gotten quality reps behind the plate through the first 12 games.
Terrific Treichel
Freshman pitcher
Bryson Treichel has turned heads in his first three appearances as an Osprey. Against Notre Dame, Treichel tossed three scoreless innings and struck out five. In his first career start against Brown, Treichel was four outs shy of a no-hitter and completed six shutout with five strikeouts. Against Ball State, Treichel tossed another five scoreless innings. The righty has not allowed a run all season and has been one of the most impressive arms in the ASUN this year.
Series History
FSU leads the all-time series 12-4, with their most recent win occurring last season on Apr. 23. UNF homered twice in the loss, but got out to an early lead. In 2023, UNF pulled off a thrilling 15-14 win at Harmon Stadium against the Seminoles, a game that went nearly four hours, had six lead changes, and featured six home runs between both teams. The last win for UNF in Tallahassee was back on Feb. 20, an opening day 7-4 win.
