
Four Ospreys In Double Figures Propel Women's Basketball Past Bethune-Cookman, 61-57

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Four Ospreys scored in double figures to help North Florida Women's Basketball propel past Bethune-Cookman, 61-57, on its first game of the North Florida Invitational at UNF Arena on Friday.
With the win, North Florida improves to 2-4 on the season and 2-0 at home.Â
Heading into the first-quarter media timeout, North Florida posted a 15-6 run highlighted by six points from freshman forward Dezuray McGill and five points from redshirt sophomore guard Alexa Washington in the span. North Florida held a 16-9 lead at the end of the first quarter.
North Florida secured the largest lead of the game at 27-13 at the 6:16-minute mark of the second quarter after back-to-back threes from freshman guard Abby Knauff and sophomore guard Jamisyn Stinson. North Florida led 32-28 at the halftime break.
North Florida outscored Bethune-Cookman 15-12 in the third quarter to command a 47-40 lead heading into the final 10 minutes.
Bethune-Cookman would cut into the lead in the fourth quarter, but Knauff would convert on a crucial and-one opportunity at the midway point of the fourth quarter to extend North Florida's lead back to seven.
With six seconds remaining in regulation with North Florida leading by three, McGill grabbed a steal to seal the game. McGill posted her second double-digit performance with 10 points on 5-7 from the floor, two rebounds and two blocked shots in 25 minutes.
Knauff, junior guard Alonya Waldon and sophomore guard Jamisyn Stinson would each score in double figures with 11 points each. For Knauff, it marked a career-high and her first game of the season with 10 or more points in just 15 minutes of action.Â
North Florida held a 32-26 advantage in paint points and an 8-2 advantage in fast break points.
Overall, 12 Ospreys logged minutes and six scored.
North Florida continues the North Florida Invitational when it hosts Campbell on Nov. 28 at 1:30 p.m. in UNF Arena.Â
