JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - North Florida women's basketball was ousted in overtime in a close back-and-forth game against Queens, 84-81, on Thursday evening at UNF Arena.
The Ospreys trailed by five points with 46 seconds left in overtime, but fought back to tie the game. Queens (N.C.) came back and made a game-winning three-pointer from the left corner as time expired.
Senior guard Kaila Rougier was sensational and carried the weight offensively, finishing with a team-high 22 points, four assists and three rebounds. Junior guard Helena Rafnsdottir added 15 points on 7-for-8 shooting from the charity stripe and freshman forward Jasmynne Gibson added a 12-point 11-rebound double-double.Â

First Half: It was a balanced scoring attack early for North Florida with four different Ospreys scoring the first four field goals despite trailing 12-8 with 5:29 in the first quarter after a putback layup by Sarah Taub…Helena Rafnsdottir scored a driving layup to close out the opening period as UNF trailed 21-16 entering the second…Jamisyn Stinson made one of her two three-pointers less than one minute into the second quarter to cut Queen's lead to two…UNF used a strong 7-for-8 performance from the free throw line in the second to trail 42-37 at halftime.
Â
Second Half: An 8-2 run from North Florida capped off with a putback layup by Jazmine Spencer with 6:45 left in the third quarter gave UNF a 45-44 lead…Queens pushed its lead back to five with under five minutes remaining in the third before Rougier knocked down a pair of free throws and made an off-balance left handed layup that gave the Ospreys yet another one-point lead heading into the fourth quarter…with the score knotted at 72 apiece in the final seconds of regulation, Rougier found herself with a good look at a potential game-winning layup but it was off the mark.
Overtime: Spencer scored a layup midway through the overtime period that saw UNF trail by just one before a clutch long distance three off the bench by freshman forward Nicole Carreno tied the game with 17 seconds remaining...however, Jermany Mapp buried what proved to be the game-sealing shot from beyond the arc.
