Swimming Falls in Close Meet with Georgia Southern on Senior Day

Daley Contributes to Three First-Place Finishes

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - North Florida women's swimming wrapped up the home portion of its competition season, dropping a close contest to seasoned opponents Georgia Southern on Saturday afternoon. 

Prior to the start of the meet, seniors McKenna Fiore, Bella Giresi, Hannah Gnatt, Allie Larrimore, Gabriella Reeves and Marcia Shaw were all honored for their contributions in and out of the pool. 

Despite the loss, the Ospreys tallied five first-place finishes, with sophomore Kayla Daley sweeping both butterfly races and helping her team take first in the 200-yard medley relay.

CLIPBOARD NOTES
  • The group of Katie Carlos, Victoria Torres, Kayla Daley and Ashley Kirby opened the meet with a first-place finish in the 200-yard medley relay, finishing with a combined time of 1:48.73
  • Daley swept both butterfly races, finishing first in the 100- and 200-yard butterfly touching the wall in 56.99 and 2:07.15. 
  • Torres won the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:05.90
  • Reeves Showfety took first in the 100-yard backstroke, touching the wall in 59.74, and placed second in the 200-yard backstroke with a time of 2:10.66.

The Ospreys head back on the road, making the short trip up to Statesboro, Ga. for a rematch with Georgia Southern Saturday, Jan. 25 at 12 p.m.
