JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - North Florida women's tennis (6-7) defeated Lipscomb (9-3) to open up conference play on a strong note at home on Friday afternoon at UNF Tennis Complex.
It was no easy task for the Ospreys in doubles play, needing
Alisa Lyshko and
Amy Kaplan to secure the doubles point after the other two courts split. With a 7-5 win over the Bison on court one, UNF went into singles play with a 1-0 lead.
Needing all the points they could get, the Bison managed to claim courts two and four to bring the score to 3-2.
Jasmin Makela had other plans and gave the Ospreys the win over Lipscomb winning in straight sets.
Singles play was a tightly-knit contest with UNF and the Bison both winning sets.
Alisa Lyshko gave the Ospreys momentum when she claimed the first set in a tiebreak, 7-4, over the Bison, as she went on to win in straight sets. With Kaplan going to a third set and the score still at 3-2,
Jasmin Makela had to step up for the Ospreys, as she was victorious over Lipscomb giving UNF the 4-2 lead to clinch the win.
Next up for the Ospreys, they will stay at the UNF Tennis Complex to take on Central Arkansas on Sunday, Mar. 17, at 10 a.m.
