Ospreys Sweep Mercer, Beat FGCU 3-2

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - North Florida beach volleyball (4-2) kicked off its home opener with a 5-0 sweep of Mercer (2-4) and a thrilling 3-2 victory over FGCU (4-2) on day one of the DUUUVAL Duals on Saturday.

The Ospreys picked up its third sweep of the campaign in its first home match against Mercer with each pair winning in two sets except for one. UNF got out to an early 2-0 lead over FGCU before the Eagles tallied two match points to tie the affair. Taylor Pierce clutched up with an ace for the Ospreys on court one in the third set to give UNF its second win of the day.

UNF dominated in its opening home match of the season, sweeping the Bears with each pair clinching in two sets. Presley Murray and Madison Espy were forced into a third set, but fended off any form of a Mercer comeback, taking it 15-9.

The Ospreys produced yet another classic with the Eagles in a match that went down to the final set. UNF took an early 2-0 advantage off the back of wins from Madeline/Katie Camp and Mackenzie Murphy/Mariana Feliciano-Sanchez. FGCU evened the score after forcing a third set on court two against Presley Murray and Madison Espy. Taylor Pierce secured the match winning ace in a thrilling final pair to break the tie.
