Cross Country Teams Voted Top Four in ASUN Preseason Poll

ATLANTA - The North Florida men's and women's cross country teams were both selected inside the top four of the ASUN Preseason Coaches Poll as announced by the league office on Friday afternoon.
After the UNF men's squad took fourth in last year's ASUN meet, the Ospreys take third in the preseason conference rankings, joining Eastern Kentucky, Lipscomb and Bellarmine as the only teams over 100 points. The women's squad finished fifth in the ASUN meet last season and were picked fourth overall in this year's preseason poll.
"All of our runners have been working hard. Our focus is for everyone to get a little better, which will improve our team finish in XC and track," said head coach Jeff Pigg. "We have good returners, a strong incoming class and the drive is strong. We're going to have a good year!"
Six of the nine runners for the men in the 2022 ASUN meet will be returning this season, headlined by Robert Pedroza, who placed 26th overall in the race. The women will have five returners from the conference championship with their top three finishers, Emma Jane O'Gorman, Isa Leen and Ella Chandler coming off of top-35 finishes at last season's meet.
The Ospreys join Eastern Kentucky and Lipscomb as the only two teams in the ASUN to have both men's and women's teams in the top four of the preseason poll. They also are the top teams in the state of Florida within the conference.
North Florida will open the season at home for a second consecutive season at the North Florida XC Invitational on Friday, Sept. 1, at the UNF Hayt Golf Center. Competing teams will feature UNF, Florida State and Florida, among other in-state schools.
