Men's Golf Concludes Season in Regionals One Shot Short of NCAA Finals

Higgins Cards 5-Under 67 Final Round, Gabrelcik & Lee Share 11th Overall

NORMAN, Okla. - North Florida men's golf performed strong in the final round, but missed the cut to make the NCAA Championships by just one stroke after scoring 20-under 844 as a team and finishing sixth overall at the NCAA Norman Regional on Wednesday afternoon.

The Ospreys were neck-and-neck with Colorado and Duke going down the stretch of the final nine holes of the day. UNF was tied with Duke with one group remaining on the final hole, but the Blue Devils scored par to take the fifth and final nationals spot available from the Normal Regional

Another pair of players scored in the 60s during the third round for the Ospreys with Robbie Higgins and Nick Gabrelcik going for 5-under 67 and 4-under 68 respectively. Higgins started with four-straight birdies and finished the round with nine total, while Gabrelcik joined Davis Lee as team leaders tied for 11th overall.

ROUND REFLECTIONS

  • Gabrelcik put together six birdies and only two holes worse than par for back-to-back rounds in the 60s for a combined score of 6-under 210.
  • The three-time ASUN Golfer of the Year selection went top five for par-five score at 7-under and led the team in pars with 34 total.
  • He turned in his ninth tournament under par on the year, as well as his 10th top-25 finish.
  • Lee had a strong start in the third round with back-to-back birdies to finish the week at 6-under 210 as well.
  • He had a top 10 par-four score at 3-under with three of his four birdies on Wednesday coming on par four holes.
  • The senior recorded his sixth tournament under par, along with it also being his sixth time inside the top 25 individuals.
  • Higgins had the best final round for UNF at 5-under 67 with nine birdies to score 5-under 11 tied for 16th overall.
  • The back-to-back First Team All-ASUN selection completed his week with the most birdies at 19 total and the best par-five score among the field at 9-under.
  • The junior ends his season with a team-high 22 rounds under par, as well as seven tournaments under par and nine top-25 placements.
  • Lance Yates had five birdies on the day, including three in the first five holes to shoot another round under par at 1-under 71.
  • He completed the week with a top-10 mark for birdies with 14 total, as well as his third tournament under par on the season.
  • Cody Carroll wraps up his collegiate career with his third consecutive round of 1-over 73 with three birdies.
  • The former ASUN Freshman of the Year finishes his career with three top-10 finishes, 17 top-25 finishes, 33 rounds under par and 15 rounds in the 60s.
  • The Ospreys were one of two teams to have two players in the top 11 and three players in the top 16 individuals.
