Mac Franks & Ryan Douihech Snags Silver Medals in Respective Events
LYNCHBURG, Va. – The 2023 ASUN Indoor Track and Field Championships finished with the North Florida programs taking home more hardware, with multiple medals and lifetime marks being set. Aidan O'Gorman made a consecutive historical mark for the Ospreys, breaking the ASUN meet record for the 3000m, marking an ASUN Indoor Championship achievement of 8:06.52. The New Smyrna Beach, Fla., native snagged double medals from the two-day competition, putting the Ospreys on the map again in the 3k and 5k races over the weekend.
Â
Macauley Franks was also a notable runner for UNF clinching a second-place spot on the podium in the men's mile. Ryan Douihech mirrored a similar performance after his strides in the 800m final to punch a second-place time at 1:51.59.
Ryan Thomas continued the successful Saturday, making program history after rewriting the indoor record set by Darius Vanblount in 2015. The Leesburg, Va., native scratched .02 seconds off the indoor record after clocking in at 8.28 in the 60m hurdles.
The UNF men's program tallied a top three finish for the third time since 2018, continuing a stretch of impressive performances throughout the seasons.
Men
"Aidan [O'Gorman] had a great meet. His dedication and effort paid off again today with an ASUN record-setting 3000m. It was a strong field and it takes a record to get the win. Ryan [Thomas] ran a great race, as he really stepped up his game this past year. He works extremely hard and just keeps improving. He now owns the school record previously held by Darius Vanblount.
The men's 800m was a great event for us with freshman Ryan [Douihech] leading the way. That is a deep event for us and it was great to see the 2-4-7 finish. I'm really proud of how well Ryan handled the big meet. It was nice to see Ladarius [Tellis] race, as he looks to be back to top form. Mac [Franks] and Timothy [Doyle] did a nice job in a stacked men's mile. That was by far the best ASUN field ever assembled and we went 2-4.
The boys did a nice job clearing early bars in the high jump to lock down some strong points. The men's 4x4 also competed well and knowing that we had two points over EKU heading into the final made it especially exciting for the team. Jordan [Travieso], Ryan [Thomas], Ladarius [Tellis] and Ryan [Douihech] were the 4x4.
Isa [Leen] did a great job in the 3000m. Coming off of her strong 5000m yesterday, it was impressive to see the 9:46 personal-best mark."
