
DIAMOND PREVIEW: Florida A&M & Florida State

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - North Florida softball heads on the road for the first time this season with matchups slated against Florida A&M and No. 6 Florida State on Wednesday, Feb. 22.
Both games will be played at FSU's Seminole Softball Complex with the Ospreys taking on FAMU at 3 p.m., followed with the night cap against the Seminoles at 6 p.m. On top of it being their first road games, it is also the first midweek games that UNF will play in this season.
The Ospreys are coming off a successful home tournament in the UNF-JU Invitational where they posted a 4-1 record on the weekend. They run-ruled Cleveland State, Memphis and Bethune-Cookman on offense, while also shutting out the Tigers and Wildcats on defense.
The matchup between UNF and FSU will be broadcasted on ACC Network Extra. Updates for both games on Wednesday will be made through live stats, as well as on Twitter at OspreySB for UNF games.
The Ospreys head down for another road trip with a neutral site tournament set up at the Stetson Invitational to face Presbyterian and Cornell on Saturday, Feb. 25, starting at 9 a.m.

WHAT TO KNOW
- Chloe Culp is fresh off an ASUN Player of the Week honor after hitting two home runs and 13 RBIs over the weekend at the UNF-JU Invitational. She ranks third in the country in RBI.
- She also leads the team this season in hits (11), doubles (4), home runs (2), RBIs (18) and total bases (21).
- The Tallahassee, Fla., native is currently on a five-game hitting streak, along with four multi-RBI games and three multi-hit games.
- Regan Hermeling joins Culp in returning to Tallahassee, Fla., as Culp played for FSU the past three seasons, while Hermeling attended Leon HS.
- Kayla Harper has showed her speed on the bases through eight games leading the team with nine runs and five steals.
- Logan Jackson is the only Osprey to have reached base in each of the first eight games played by UNF.
- Ashley Connor had a fantastic debut this past weekend, as she comes into the week with a 2-0 record, 0.86 ERA, and 13 strikeouts over 16.1 innings pitched.
- Izzy Kelly has also been a crucial part of the Osprey pitching staff with a 3-1 record and nine strikeouts in 17 innings pitched.
- There are five players with at least 10 at bats on the year that have a batting average of .300 or higher.
- UNF has scored eight or more runs in four of their eight games, along with eight or more hits in five of them.
- They also have been playing lights out on defense with one earned run or less in five of eight games played.
- In the four wins at the UNF-JU Invitational, the Ospreys scored their opponents, 36-2.
- Florida State will be third Power Five opponent UNF has faced this season and the first ranked opponent since No. 20 UCF on Apr. 6, 2022.
OPPONENT NOTES
- Florida A&M starts its 2023 campaign with a 2-8 overall record with their two wins coming against Hampton and Mercer. They currently are on a seven-game losing skid with a pair of losses to FSU and an 0-5 weekend at the Mardi Gras Mambo. Jane'a Mobley has been the most consistent hitter for the Rattlers with six hits and a .300 batting average. Amaya Gainer is also a difference maker on offense with a team-leading seven hits and five RBIs. Nadia Zenteno is their leader in the circle with nine strikeouts over 24.1 innings pitched this season.
- UNF leads the overall series against the the Rattlers, 21-9, with the last meeting being a 2-0 victory at Jacksonville, Fla., in 2022.
- Florida State has an overall record of 9-3 to start the year, as well as a 6-1 record at home. They already have familiarity with ASUN opponents, as they beat Lipscomb in a doubleheader to open their season. They have wins against No. 4 Arkansas, No. 15 Arizona and No. 22 UL-Lafayette, but have also lost to Longwood, No. 2 UCLA and No. 12 Alabama by a combined four runs. Three players for FSU have already reached double-digit hits in 12 games played with four players hitting over .300. Kaley Mudge has been the Seminoles' best producer of offense with 12 hits, 10 runs, seven RBI and a .343 batting average. Mack Leonard is also a player to watch out for on both sides of the ball, as she has 10 hits, 11 RBI and two home runs to go along with her 2.33 ERA and four strikeouts in the circle.
- UNF trails the overall series against the Seminoles, 1-17, with the last meeting being a 12-3 defeat at Jacksonville, Fla., in 2022.
