
TRACK & FIELD INDOOR PREVIEW: Camel City & Celebration Pointe Invitational

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - The North Florida track and field team will split squads this week as they take on two indoor meets. A few Ospreys will head to Winston-Salem, N.C., to compete in the Camel City Invite at the JDL Fast Track Facility, while a group of runners will also compete in the Celebration Pointe Invitational in Gainesville, Fla. at the Alachua Sports Complex.
It is the third time this indoor season that the Ospreys will be running at the Alachua Sports Complex in Gainesville. The Celebration Pointe meet will take place from Feb. 2-3, followed by the Camel City meet that will go from Feb. 3-4.
LAST TIME OUT
Men
- Aidan O'Gorman broke the indoor program 3k record turning in a time of exactly eight minutes.
- He also was selected as ASUN Indoor Track Athlete of the Week for the first time in his career.
- Timothy Doyle earned a second place title in the men's 800m run at 1:53.14.
- Macauley Franks placed first overall in the 800m, as he crossed the finish line at 1:51.68.
- Cole Perry, Justin Tackling, and Thomas Weiler all performed well finishing third, fourth and fifth in the 5k.
Women
- Emma Jane Schlageter finished third in the women's mile at 4:58.55
- Kaley Petrosky placed third overall after clearing the 1.70m mark in the women's high jump
- Isa Leen made a remarkable performance during her race, securing the second place title in the 5k
- Raquel Lespasio also maintained notable stride earned the 3rd place rank in the race at 18:25.11 in the 5k
- Ella Chandler ran well earning second for the Ospreys in the 800m
NOTABLE OPPONENTS
This week, the Ospreys will split forces and take on Duke, Virginia, High Point, Wake Forest and several other ACC teams. The high jumpers and some Osprey runners will also compete against in-state competitors Florida A&M, Embry-Riddle, UCF and Tampa.Â
The DMR team at Duke University recently established a new program record. Beau Allen also made exceptional height, clearing the 2.06m for the Duke University men's high jump. Emma Soderstrom posted great leaps in women's high jump clearing the the 1.65m mark for Wake Forest.
High Point's men's track team currently has the highest ranking in the Big South Southeast region. Several performers broke facility records for Florida A&M. Mia Heard broke the facility record and women's long jump and several runners placed in the top five of the SWAC for indoor competition.
