
Washington Sets Three-Point Record In 105-66 Win Against Piedmont

Freshman Scored 31 Points With Nine Made Three-Pointers
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - True freshman Alexa Washington put together a historic performance from beyond the arc with nine made three-pointers to set the program record, as North Florida women's basketball topples Piedmont (5-3) on Wednesday afternoon at UNF Arena.
Washington finished with 31 total points, surpassing her previous best of 18 points in her second career collegiate game against Trinity Baptist. She also sits top eight in most points scored in a single game and the first player to hit that mark since Jazz Bond during the 2021 season.
The Ospreys scored over 100 points for the second time this season after scoring 116 points against Trinity Baptist on Nov. 9. They now move to 3-1 at home after five UNF players, including two from the bench, record double figures in scoring against the Lions.

First Half: Emma Broermann was the hot hand early for the Ospreys with eight of the first 11 points, including an and-one bucket...Lyric Swann and Alexa Washington put together a pair of threes, followed by a Kaila Rougier layup to go up by double digits...Broermann stopped six straight points from the Lions to go along with another Washington three to go into the second quarter up eight...Kirsten Clark nailed a corner three to gain her first points of the game to start the period off...Helena Rafnsdottir and Washington both executed on back-to-back possessions with downtown makes...another three from Washington upped her total to five at the half up by 16 points.
Second Half: Swann kept the scoring up for the Ospreys out of the half after Piedmont had an early run out of the break...UNF pulled out a 12-2 run shortly after with a pair of quick scores from both Selma Eklund and Jayla Adams to nearly eclipse a 20-point lead...Rougier ended the third quarter with a buzzer-beating jumper that gave the Ospreys momentum into the fourth...Kyla Cain had the first score of the final period to go along with yet another Washington three...UNF kept the heat on offense with 14 consecutive points finished off by five points from Washington...another and-one make from Cain and the record-breaking trey from Washington ended the game, as UNF's defense clamped up in the final period holding the Lions to only seven points in the 105-66 win.

NOTES
- Washington becomes the first Osprey since Marissa Mackins to make at least eight threes.
- She also matched the eighth-best mark for most points with Jazz Bond and Skye Barber.
- The Ospreys were also only one three-pointer short of tying the team record for three-pointers in a single game.
- Broermann led the team in rebounds and was one board short of a double-double after scoring 12 points.
- Adams recorded five steals on the day to become the second Osprey in consecutive games with that mark after Sarah Taub had five against Coppin State last week.
- UNF held considerable margins for points off turnovers, 38-13, points in the paint, 46-24, and second-chance points, 18-11.
- They also led in fast break points, 18-5, and bench points, 55-27.
