UNF Completes Perfect Weekend
CHARLESTON, S.C. - North Florida (4-1) women's tennis finished off an undefeated weekend with a 5-2 victory at Charleston Southern (0-3), Sunday, Jan. 29, moving the Ospreys to 4-1 after a 3-0 stint in South Carolina.
The Ospreys dropped doubles, as Noa Boyd and Amila Jusufbegovic downed Isabel Oliveira and Jasmin Makela in a tiebreaker to clinch the doubles point for Charleston Southern. This broke UNF's 14-match doubles point-win streak dating back to March 20 at Stetson.
The Buccaneers' lead didn't last long, as Makela won in two sets at the fifth slot, followed by Megan Forster and Annabelle Davis doing the same. While the Ospreys were up 3-1, Kit Gulihur won at the top slot, clinching the victory for UNF. Kendall Nash gave the Ospreys their fifth point in her singles victory, although Ana Paula Melilo lost in a ten-point tiebreaker to finish the match.Â
The Ospreys continue on the road and look to continue their winning streak Sunday, Feb. 5 at Florida State and FAMU.Â
Coach Dunagan's Comments
"I'm really proud of our team and how we responded today when we didn't win the doubles point. We came out strong, winning five first sets in singles and we never backed down. I'm really proud of this group. It was a very physical weekend and we definitely got better."
