JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - The North Florida women's cross country team exceeded all competitors, with four runners placing in the top 10 to defend the Ospreys' home course and win the UNF Invitational on Friday morning.
The Ospreys narrowly edged out Stetson by three points with sophomore
Emma Jane Schlageter earning the top spot for the Ospreys in third place. She recorded a personal-best mark of 18:10.3 in the 5k race, which beats her former lifetime best by over a minute.
Jacksonville placed in the top-two slots of the meet, but the Ospreys replaced this deficit by acquiring 14 spots in the top 25.
FINISH LINE
- Schlageter received the best placement of her career in third to go along with her personal-best mark of 18:10.3.
- Transfer Gianna Forte impressed in her first outing as an Osprey after grabbing sixth to best her lifetime mark as well at 18:18.3.
- Mia McLain, who was the top runner for UNF in three meets last season, finished right behind Forte at 18:32.9.
- Five Ospreys turned in placements between 10th and 14th to secure the first-place finish at the UNF Invite.
- Isa Leen, Camryn Cooney and Hannah Martin showed great returns to the course inside the top-15, while Neve Moulai and Erica Fisher filled the gaps in their debuts for UNF cross country.
- Leen and Martin also turned in lifetime best marks each with times under 19 minutes.
- UNF finished ahead of in-state ASUN rivals Jacksonville and Stetson, as well as D-II Championship qualifier, Saint Leo.
