Former UF Swimmer and Three-Time Olympic Trials Qualifier Joins North Florida
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Head swimming coach Ian Coffey is excited to announce the hiring of five-time all-american, Lindsey McKnight, as assistant swimming coach.
"After time away from the pool, I'm entering into this coaching position with a new perspective on the sport," McKnight said. "I want to use the experience I had as a swimmer and combine that with the skills I've developed outside the pool to create a positive and impactful environment for the UNF swimming team. Coach Coffey is such a talented coach and I'm excited to learn from him as we work together this season. Swoop!"
McKnight's career background has sent her up and down the east coast before landing her on her next opportunity and first full-time assistant coaching position.Â
A five-star recruit and top 10 recruit in 2012 per CollegeSwimming.com, McKnight accumulated a staggering 13 state championships and the state record in the 100 breast during high school. A native of Coral Springs, Fla. McKnight attended the highly lauded American Heritage HS before earning a chance to swim at the University of Florida.Â
"I'm very excited about what Lindsey can bring to the program," head swimming coach Ian Coffey said. "Her positive energy and experience as a high-level athlete will have an immediate impact. I'm very happy to have her on the staff."
At UF she racked up the accolades, including recognition as a five-time all-american and SEC and NCAA Championship qualifier. McKnight was an Olympic Trials Qualifier for the 2008, 2012 and 2016 Olympics as well.Â
While in Gainesville, McKnight also earned 2015 Second Team All-SEC recognition, 2014 SEC Academic Honor Roll laurels and a spot on the 2013 SEC All-Freshmen Team. She ranks in the top ten in UF's all-time record books in nine events, including the 50 free, 100 free, 200 free, 100 breast, 100 IM, 200 free relay, 400 free relay, 800 free relay and 200 medley relay.
In 2017, McKnight graduated with her bachelor's of arts in political science while serving as a contracts assistant with SGI Global. From there she moved to work in Boston before landing on a nearly four-year stint with the KACE Company in Alexandria, Va. as an intelligence analyst supporting the Drug Enforcement Agency.Â
In January of 2022, McKnight returned to the Sunshine State to work with the state's attorney's office in Jacksonville as a crime analyst.
