JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - North Florida beach volleyball concluded its gauntlet of a weekend at its own North Florida Invite by taking on No. 4 Florida State and No. 10 FAU Saturday, April 2 from The Coop.
Despite rain and lightning issuing a multi-hour delay, UNF (15-10) was able to get both of its matches in as it fell to Florida State (18-5) and FAU (14-10).
UNF hosted a five-team invitational comprised of some of the best programs in the nation. No. 4 Florida State, No. 10 FAU, No. 11 Georgia State and No. 18 Pepperdine came to Jacksonville to experience The Coop.
Match 1: #4 FSU 5, UNF 0
Florida State took the second-ever meeting between these two teams at The Coop, 5-0. It was the highest-ranked foe that North Florida had taken on all year and the sixth time these two teams have met.Â

Order of finish: Doubles (4,5,3,2,1);
T-1:35 A-60
Match 2: #10 FAU 3, UNF 0
The final result was decided before all courts were completed and the 3-0 outcome in favor of FAU certainly didn't capture the tension on each court.Â
With rain falling and sunlight fading, the match got underway in a staggered fashion, with court five beginning play while Florida State and Georgia State still playing at nearby courts.
Slowly but surely every other court got going, with FAU jumping out to a 2-0 lead with wins at positions four and five. FAU clinched the match at the third position, coming back after Zoe Cahill and Julianna Askew won the first set.Â
North Florida had its eyes set on a pair of team points at positions one and two. Callie Workman and Taryn Griffey took the first set from the challenging pair of Erica Brok and Mackenzie Morris. Lauren Galinis and Carleigh Semeniuk came up just short of winning in straight sets, but a 23-11 defeat in frame one prevented that.Â
Both pairs were left unfinished as the match was called, 3-0 FAU.
