Solo Homers Separate South Carolina from Ospreys Tuesday Night
4/12/2022 10:16:00 PM | Baseball
COLUMBIA, S.C. - Abraham Sequera doubled in two runs with two outs in the sixth to tie things up, 2-2, but South Carolina (16-16) hit a solo home run in each of its next two innings on offense as North Florida baseball was edged by the Gamecocks, 4-2, Tuesday, April 12.
All four games in the series history between these two teams have been decided by three runs or less. Tuesday night's game marks UNF's final contest against a Power Five team in the regular season. It's also UNF's final non-conference road midweek game of the year.
UNF (13-21) created an opportunity for itself thanks to stingy pitching with Gamecock runners on base. North Florida stranded eight South Carolina runners despite the loss.

- SC quickly regained the lead on a Colin Burgess solo home run in the bottom of the sixth.
- Once again, UNF got tough with Gamecocks on the bases, as Jason Gonzalez stranded runners at second and third by coaxing a groundout to Isaiah Byars at shortstop in the sixth.
- North Florida pushed runners to second and third with one out in the seventh, but an unusual 3-6 double play got South Carolina out of the jam.
- SC took a 4-2 lead on Josiah Sightler's solo home run to right center in the seventh.
- UNF notched singles in each of the next two innings but the Ospreys were held scoreless.
