Ospreys Drop Matches to No. 11 Georgia State, No. 18 Pepperdine
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - UNF beach volleyball (15-8) opened its weekend at home against No. 11 Georgia State and No. 18 Pepperdine as the Ospreys came up a set short of splitting a Friday twin bill against a pair of ranked foes.
The Ospreys had their five-match winning streak snapped after a 5-0 loss to No. 11 Georgia State (13-10). UNF jumped out to a 2-0 lead against No. 18 Pepperdine (16-5) in game two of the day, but the Waves retaliated to win the next three courts in a 3-2 loss.
Match 1: #11 GSU 5, UNF 0
The weekend's first test came against No. 11 Georgia State as the Panthers pounced to a 2-0 lead. Chantel McMillan and Madeline Camp were the closest to a team point across the first two pairs to get underway. The duo won 21-13 in the first frame, but GSU's Becky Treshman and Chloee Kleespies battled back to win in three frames.
Pairs one through three featured veterans up and down the lineup as familiar foes fought for the final three points. North Florida was edged by three points or less in six of the remaining sets played as GSU ran away with it.
Marisa Rogers and Leah Maloney put up a strong match at the extras slot, winning 21-9 and 21-16 against Tyler Lindgren and Bailey Hatchett.
