Men's Golf Starts in Fourth at Ka'anapali Classic Collegiate

Gabrelcik Sits Inside Top Three Individuals
MAUI, Hawaii - North Florida men's golf started its opening round in paradise on a strong note with four players scoring at par or better to end the first day in fourth at the Ka'anapali Classic Collegiate hosted by Hawaii on Friday afternoon.
The Ospreys were led by Nick Gabrelcik once again, as he carded another round in the 60s to jump inside the top three individuals at the conclusion of round one. It was his sixth round scored in the 60s in the past seven rounds played with the help of two eagles recorded on the first and ninth holes.

North Florida continues their second round at the Ka'anapali Classic Collegiate on Saturday, Oct. 29, where they will be paired up with No. 62 Clemson, No. 11 Oklahoma and No. 45 ETSU for a shotgun start at 2 p.m. EST.

ROUND REFLECTIONS
- Gabrelcik was one of three players on Friday to record two eagles, on top of his four birdies and 10 pars to kick off his performance in Hawaii at 6-under 65.
- The Trinity, Fla., native also continues his recent trend of holding the top spot for average score on par-five holes at 5-under.
- Robbie Higgins bursted onto the scene with a strong start, as he carded five birdies over the first 10 holes to finish his day at 3-under 68.
- He finished his round tied for 16th and sits in the top 10 for most birdies during the opening round of play with six total.
- Both Gabrelcik and Higgins ended the first round at 2-under on par-four holes, which ranks in the top 10 among the field.
- Cody Carroll shot five birdies and posted the second-best par-three average score (2-under) on his way to a share of 28th at 2-under 69.
- Davis Lee finished strong with back-to-back birdies on the final two holes, while also holding a top-10 spot in most pars with 13 total in the first round, to sneak inside the top 50 individuals at even-par.
- Lance Yates posted a solid round with two birdies and 12 pars to round out the Osprey group at 3-over par.
- Cooper Smith also played as an unattached individual to the UNF team with a score of 6-over 77 in the opening round.
- The Ospreys were one of three teams in the first round to have three players record rounds in the 60s with at least one player having 6-under 65 or better.
- UNF is the third-best team thus far in average score on par-five holes (13-under), as well as the fifth-most birdies with 20 total.
