Gabrelcik Shares Second Overall Through First Round

WINDERMERE, Fla. - North Florida men's golf starts off the opening round of play in 12th-place at the Isleworth Collegiate on Sunday afternoon.

The Ospreys had some strong individual performances highlighted by Nick Gabrelcik carding his fourth consecutive round in the 60s at 5-under 67. This dates back to last week at the Quail Valley Collegiate Invitational with a 54-hole score of 16-under 200 (65-67-68), where he finished as the individual runner-up.

UNF had a top-two team standing in hand through the first round at UCF, but a scoring error cost the Ospreys one of their counting rounds to drop them down the 12th in a strong field that consists of 11 teams ranked in the top 50.

ROUND REFLECTIONS

Gabrelcik saved his best for last in the opening round with four birdies on the last six holes to reach 5-under 67 on the day.
The Trinity, Fla., native is tied for second in average par-four score at 3-under (3.70), along with top-five for par-five average scoring at 3-under (4.25) as well.
Davis Lee put together a solid first round with 13 pars, which ranks top-five in the field, to sit among the top 25 at 1-over 73.
Cody Carroll was a late entry for the Ospreys before the first round at UCF and he delivered with a score of 4-over 76 to share 44th overall.
He finished the first round with one birdie, while also scoring par for every hole on the back nine.
Robbie Higgins recorded a birdie with 11 pars to fall right behind Carroll at 7-over 79 tied for 62nd.
Lance Yates turned in 2-under 70 that would've placed him inside the top 10, but a scoring error disqualified the entry for today's round of play.
UNF found its success on the first day on par-four holes with a scoring average of 3-over, ranking third in the field.
