Higgins Cards Best Round, Gabrelcik Shares Fifth Overall

WINDERMERE, Fla. - North Florida men's golf made the necessary adjustments to improve during the second round to move up from 12th to hold a share of fifth with No. 9 Illinois at the Isleworth Collegiate on Monday afternoon.

The Ospreys shot the fourth-best round on the day with a score of 4-under 284 to set themselves up for a strong finish in the final round on Tuesday. They currently sit at 3-over 579 combined through the first two rounds of play.

Nick Gabrelcik started where he left off at the end of the opening round with four birdies on the front nine to turn in even-par 72 on the day, which puts him tied for fifth overall among the field. Robbie Higgins also had the best score for UNF in the second round at 2-under 70.

ROUND REFLECTIONS

Gabrelcik carded five birdies in the second round, which puts him among the top three individuals for most birdies with 11 total, to stand at a combined score of 5-under 139.
The junior has been dominating par-five holes with the second-best average score in the field at 6-under through 36 holes.
Another strong round from Gabrelcik on Tuesday would set him up to record the 15th top-five finish of his career.
Davis Lee showed his consistency once again with three birdies and 13 pars to shoot under par at 1-under 71.
Lee earned a spot inside the top 20 individuals headed into the final round at even-par 144 combined.
Higgins made the biggest jump for the Ospreys in the second round with 2-under 70 after carding 7-over in the opening round.
Higgins had four birdies in the round and joined Gabrelcik with no score worse than par on his first nine holes.
Cody Carroll recorded three birdies early on the front nine to set himself up for a score of 3-over 75 on the day.
Lance Yates had the highlight of the day for UNF with a hole-in-one on the fifth hole on his way to a 1-under 71 second round score to wrap up the group on Monday.
The Ospreys are one of five teams to have one player inside the top five and a second player among the top 20 individuals.
UNF continue to play well on par-four holes with an average score of 6-over that ranks third, while also being top-five for both par-five (8-under) and par-three (8-over) holes.
