Ospreys Sweep North Alabama Behind Timely Hits, Strong Pitching

JACKSONVILLE - A combined 20 strikeouts and five extra base hits, North Florida softball swept North Alabama, 5-2, and 6-2, Saturday in the final regular season game for the Ospreys.
North Florida improved to 20-21 on the season to mark the 13th straight season (excluding 2020) for the program to reach the mileston under head coach Marcie Higgs. North Alabama dropped to 18-16.

How it Happened
- In the first back-to-back two out doubles allowed the Ospreys to take a 1-0 lead. Paige Pfent recorded the first hit of the game and Shannon Glover switched places with her to get the run.
- The Ospreys tacked on another run in the bottom of the fourth on a sac fly.
- In the sixth, Logan Jackson smacked a three-run homer to center field to make it a 5-0 game.
- Arends - who finished with 10 strikeouts - gave up two runs on a triple, but got the final batter swinging to end any scoring.

How it Happened
- The game was scoreless through three before Ashley Goebel led off with a single before being replaced by Bailee Aguigui. She stole second and then came around to score on Brittany Sundermeier's double down the right line for a 1-0 lead.
- North Alabama then tied the game on a single homer in the fifth.
- It was short lived as UNF put up a five spot in the bottom of the frame. Kayla Harper led off the inning with a single before stealing second. A single from Glover loaded the bases after Pfent was hit-by-pitch.
- Goebel then had an two-RBI single before coming around to score on Sundermeier's single.
- With runners on the corners, Rebecca Koskey, who had an RBI single stole home thanks to a throw down to second to give UNF the 6-1 lead.
- In the sixth, UNA tried to shrink the gap with a lead off triple and a walk. The Lions scored on a wild pitch, but it was the final chance as the Ospreys turned a double play to close out the game.
OF NOTE
- Clausen recorded a career-high 10 strikeouts in game two, while Arends fanned 10 as well in the opener which was just her second double-figure total of the season.
- For the day, Sundermeier, Harper and Goebel all had three hits with Sundermeier recording two doubles.
- Jackson had four RBI thanks to her three-run homer.Â
- Pfent is on an 11-game reached base streak, while Harper and Glover are on a seven-game stretch.Â
- Goebel currently paces the team with a five-game hit streak.
Up Next
