
Beach Volleyball Holds Senior Day, Edged in Doubleheader

Ospreys Honor Beckley, Cain, Harrison, Roskic and Smith in Home Finale
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - UNF beach volleyball (17-9) hosted a doubleheader on Senior Day, falling in matches against (RV) FGCU (14-11) and No. 19 Georgia State (21-12) Saturday, April 17 from The Cooper Beach Volleyball Complex.
North Florida honored and recognized Sophie Beckley, Carolyn Cain, Antonia Harrison, Dana Roskic and Kirby Smith prior to the match for Senior Day.
Seven of 10 sets went to three frames as the Ospreys played their final home matches of the year.
Match 1: (RV) FGCU 4, (RV) UNF 1
FGCU started the day with a straight-sets win at the fifth slot. The Eagles would go up 2-0 after the fourth pair, but it wasn't so easy as Lauren Galinis and Carleigh Semeniuk won the longest set played of the season.
Down a frame, Semeniuk and Galinis erased a 20-13 deficit, forcing a marathon sequence that saw the session go deep into the upper 20s. Semeniuk and Galinis eventually won set two, 30-28. Georgia State edged out a 15-13 win in the deciding set.
The Panthers swept the third slot and clinched the match at the second slot in a three-set bout between Taryn Griffey and Callie Workman and the GSU second pair.
Despite losing the first set, 13-21, Harrison and Roskic rebounded to win at the top slot, 21-17 and 15-10.

The Ospreys played match number 10 against a ranked opponent in the second match of the day, barely being edged out by No. 19 Georgia State, 3-2.
The Panthers took both sets at the fifth pair for a 1-0 lead.
McMillan and Cain battled Mattie Johnson and Olivia Stasevich at the fourth slot. The Panthers won the first frame before McMillan and Cain earned a 21-19 win. A seesaw battle ended in GSU's favor, 18-16 in the third session.
The remaining three courts saw matches go to three sets. GSU would clinch the match at the second slot before Semeniuk and Galinis got on the better end of a three-match battle in the third position.
Harrison and Roskic won the opening set, 27-25, fell in the second by two points and then clinched their 20th win of the season thanks to a 17-15 result in the third frame.
