Ospreys Host UNCW, Mercer, Charleston and Erskine

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - UNF beach volleyball begins its tenth season and second at The Cooper Beach Volleyball Complex with an invitational that includes UNC Wilmington, Mercer, Charleston and Erskine.

UNF plays UNCW and Mercer Friday before matches with Charleston and Erskine Saturday. The Coop will also play host to six neutral site matches.

All matches at The Coop are closed to the public. Admission is only available via team pass list and for a limited number of UNF students.

1) Roll it Back
UNF beach volleyball played eight matches in 2020 before the season was shut down due to COVID-19 … North Florida went 2-6, picking up wins against Mercer and UNCW … UNF received votes in the AVCA Preseason Coaches Poll and played six matches against ranked foes … North Florida has three true freshman and 11 starters returning.

2) Notables
UNF was picking up votes in the preseason 2021 AVCA Collegiate Beach Volleyball Preseason Poll … Callie Workman comes in as North Florida's active wins leader at 35 … Dana Roskic is close behind with 28 after a 24-win freshman season … all-told UNF is 138-87 in program history … the Ospreys play five teams ranked in AVCA Preseason Poll (Florida State, Stetson, FAU, FIU and Georgia State).

3) Preseason Populars
Not one or two, but three Ospreys were named to the Preseason All-ASUN team in Taryn Griffey, Callie Workman and Dana Roskic … it's the first time UNF beach volleyball has had a trio of selections to the preseason squad since 2017 when Chaney Howard, Courtney Miller and Katarina Raicevic were selected.

4) How We Stack Up
UNF has played each opponent in this invitational besides Erskine … the Ospreys are 5-1 against UNCW, 19-2 against Mercer and 4-4 against Charleston … UNF swept Mercer and UNCW at The Coop last year and fell to Charleston, 3-2, in 2019.

UNCW: The Seahawks went 4-5 a year ago … UNCW is led by Dottie Hamptom in her first season after being hired May 12, 2020 … UNCW has a graduate student, three seniors and two juniors for its upperclassmen breakdown.
Mercer: The Bears were 2-11 a year ago … this is year number 10 for the Mercer beach volleyball program … Mercer is led by Josh Marsh.
Charleston: Charleston was 3-6 during the spring of 2020 … it was 20-4 a year prior, reaching the CCSA Championships and USA Volleyball Collegiate Beach Championships in Hermosa Beach, Calif. … Jason Kepner is the head coach for the indoor and beach program.
